Nostalgic & romantic engagement session at Prospect House in Dripping Springs, Texas
I absolutely love when my wedding couples decide to book an engagement session with me. Nothing beats being able to spend some time together in front of my camera before the big day! Not only do my couples get the chance to learn more about my photographic style and the experience of being directed by me throughout a session; but I also get to know my couples even better. The wedding day goes by so fast and we are on a set timeline, so engagement sessions allow us all a pressure-free way to get to spend more time together, which is just the best. Needless to say, when Emily & Josh opted to do an engagement session at their wedding venue, I was ecstatic!
Prospect House is such a special venue nestled in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. The venue itself is so thoughtfully designed, and the land that it sits on is absolutely stunning. With its natural light and sweeping Hill Country views, it's a wedding photographer's dream!
From the start, our session had an easy, lighthearted energy. Emily and Josh fell into step with each other so naturally, moving between laughter and quiet moments without needing much direction. This is my favorite part of every photo session: when my couple, who come in being a little nervous about posing and how they're going to feel in front of the camera, realize that all they need to do is be themselves to make beautiful art.
We approached their engagement session as I approach all of my sessions, with a blend of candid movement and gentle posing, which lets their connection take the lead and creates space for those soft, intimate portraits that feel both elevated and true to who they are.
One of the sweetest parts of the evening was when I played their first dance song. I try to do this at all of my engagement sessions; it gives my couples a chance to slow down, connect with each other, and have a tender moment that always results in some of my favorite photos from our session. It's intimate and simple, and reminds my couples that they don't have to 'perform' for me; the overflow of their affection for one another makes for the most organic and memorable photos!
